29th and 30th were unforgettable days in the life of S1 EC students of SBCE. These were the days when our college hosted “XCELL”. It’s a mission. A mission with a very clear destination to succeed!
On behalf of S1 EC students, I express my sincere gratitude towards the XCELL coordinators, Krishna sir and Mridula ma’am and also to the college management and other faculty members, especially Hariprakash sir for conducting such a marvelous program for the first years. About the training programme, all sessions were inspiring and I am confident enough to say that if mastery over self, time and habit result, then success in every endeavor is bound to follow. The two day programme was really a stepping stone in our career. It enabled us to focus on where we want to go rather than where we came from.
The classes on study skills, memory techniques, time management, communication skills etc had an enormous influence on us. Sir told us that excellence and merit, brilliance and distinction are laudable vision and aim. These aspirations can be achieved through mastery and discipline. He emphasized on smart work rather than just hard work. During the course, we prepared an action plan, which will help us to reorganize our studies and it will strengthen our perspective of looking towards a bright future.
A new style of making notes is “Mind Mapping”. It’s an excellent way of studying. Under memory techniques, the classification of memory as trained and untrained was a new idea for us. We practiced many techniques to enhance our memory and were fruitful. Lectures on communication skill by Mridula ma’am were excellent. She insisted us to read many books like “Long Walk to Freedom”; “It’s not about the bike” etc .Her visualizing techniques was amazing. The video clips that were played during the programme had a great impact on us.
The students were divided into 8 teams which brought a competitive spirit among us. We all participated actively in the workshop and kept the environment exciting .What we have learnt from XCELL, will be the guideline for our future. We will live up to the spirit of XCELL.
