As you all know, today is World Water day- a day to remember the vanishing beauties of this earth. its an idiocy that we are celebrating anything- even these kind of global crises. We, as responsive citizens, should focus our attention to the conservation of the global water column…
In India, even at the vedic period itself, the people were well aware of the significance of water conservation. they knew how much water is inevitable in the very existence of the earth.
here’s an excerpt from ASHTANGA HRIDAYA
“Paneeyam praninam prana
Viswameva cha thanmayam
Thasmath thoyath vina na vruthy
Swasthasya vyadhithasya cha.”
meaning
Paneeyam…….thanmayam
Water is the prana(breath) of all forms of life. Like Prana to our body, water is the elixir of life.
Thasmath…..vyadhithasya cha
Without water, nobody can never ever live- even the healthy and diseased. The word ‘diseased is specifically used here. Its a metaphor referring the abusers of all kinds of resources… even they cant live without water——-
This is the power of water-one of the basic elements of panchabhoota…
