“The World is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page.
- St. Augustine”
The above quote really means a lot to us… For weeks before the tour we had started planning and scheduling for the big moment. It was supposed to be the last tour in our college life and we wanted to make the best out of it. The Coordinators along with Rinu chettan (the pilot of our bus and dear friend) decided to take us all for a five day tour to exquisite locations like Wayanad ,Coorg and Goa.
Finally the day we all waited for arrived and All of us and our dear staffs (Riji sir, Dhanya Miss and Devika Miss) with great enthusiasm and anxiety ,boarded the bus on 4th of Oct at 5:30 pm. We all rocked the bus dancing ,playing and singing. Next morning by 6 we reached adivaram (border of Kozhikode district) for a short refreshment and then headed to Wayanad, a place that made each and every one proud to say that we are truly in God’s own country.
The natural scenic beauty of Wayanad and its rich natural resources offer several opportunities for adventure tourism. The hill rocks and valleys make the very unique characters of Wayanad worth seeing.
After having refreshments at Wayanad we all had a nice time on pedal boats in the Pookod lake. Later we experienced the beauty of trecking in scorching hot Soochipara waterfalls (Pandaram tour coordinator Vishnunu vechitundu!!!!!), After a long hike we reached Edakkal caves on the base of which we had a delicious lunch. After the feast we headed towards the caves on Jeeps driven by what you can call… Michael Schumacers of Kerala.
With great difficulty we climbed the caves ,the path was very steep and scary ,even a slight carelessness could cause great danger. But all the pain was worth as we reached the top,the early cave painting could be seen and the view from there was heavenly. As we climbed down the caves ,the pictures of the caves continued to haunt us with a nostalgic sense.
We started to Coorg ,after our visit to Wayanad,by 6:30 in the evening. The whole night we had to spent on the bus.Early morning at 1:30 we reached Coorg. We had arranged our stay at a Buddhist Yoga Center (sera jey yoga choeling centre). After the long journey in the bus we were relieved to stretch ourselves on the bed and slept peacefully.
Coorg district is in the evergreen land of Karnataka, a very calm place which gave us the feeling that we are some where in Tibet. Early morning everyone got fresh, got ready and started off to visit the Golden temple.
The Golden Temple is stunningly beautiful. It made all of us stand and stare at it for a few minutes. The inside was breathtaking. The temple is a wonderful architechture and art and is full of paintings depicting the Buddhist culture. It houses 3 huge 60ft high statues of Lord Buddha. They are made of copper plated with gold .Inside the statues are scriptures .relics of great beings .
After visit to golden temple we went to Medigeri ,a wildlife sanctuary and from there we were off to Cauvery river. We enjoyed the time spend there. We crossed the river on foot under the brave guidance of Riji Sir and Prephul, it was indeed a splendid experience. From there we started our journey to Goa,the only thing that bothered us was that we had to spend the whole night on bus. But Riji sir made it very exiting with his magic tricks and horror stories which even now gives me goose bumps!!!
We reached the state of Goa the next day afternoon. We all got fresh had lunch and were off to see the magnificent scenic beauty and the architectural splendours of its temples and churches. Goa is truly a ‘Tourist Paradise’.
Goan beaches are famous all over the world and the first place we visited was The Colva beach. The beaches are alive with activity all around the day and well into the night and we all were swinging into the Goan trance dictated by the sea and nature’s bounty. We did a bit of shopping there and started off to see the forts in Goa.
Goan forts are immense historic specimen of immense military ,political and economic importance.the old monuments ,now in ruins are mute testimony to the bygone era. We couldn’t spend much time there as we had to hurry for the ship cruise.
Truly the time we spend on the ship added colours to our memory canvas. The ship set out from the jetty, lit by the softened lights as the sun slipped into the horizon. The dancers in the ship performed typical Goan and Portugese dances. We also danced the night out in the disco thanks to the rockin g music by the DJ. After that exhausted and sleepy, we returned to our rooms .
Next day we were to visit the churches in Goa .We visited the ST.Francis Xaviers church, which is over 5 centuries old. It has an impressive dorian style of architechture. The church houses the sacred relics of Goa’s patron saint, St Francis Savior. Embalmed in an airtight coffin, the saint is said to have miraculous healing powers and pilgrims come from all over the country.
After the visit to the church,we had our IV at Zenith Computers. We had a nice time counting the number of computers there (idinum Vishnunu vechitundu!!!!)… From there we went to the beach in goa and spent the rest of the day there. We never thought the guys would have the guts to go Parasailing. After seeing them having so much fun, even we girls tried it out. That was one of the best experiences.
Evening ,by 7 we started our journey back to Kerala. We reached the Vismaya water theme park at Kannur next day.The whole day was spent there and at 6 o’ clock we started back to college. We enjoyed our return journey in the bus but all of us were really sad thinkng that all the fun and enjoyment we had was coming to an end and we all have to get back to our studies.

We really enjoyed the time we spent with our teachers ,Riji sir ,Dhanya ma’am and Devika ma’am.They were just like one among us and indeed made our excursion one that can be cherished our lifetime.
