Hi Everybody . . . I’am back with the latest news regarding : “Final Year Cyborgs In Seminar Hall “…Yah its been a long time since I got the chance to update this post. Its not because of my delay but the fact that the 2nd batch’s seminar was held just today after a long gap since the 1st batch. You know what…todays seminar was postponed 5 – 6 times. By the way guys and gals we are here after Ramzan. Hope you all enjoyed it.

Today’s seminar batch consisted of 6 members : Krishnaraj, Deepalekshmi, Kochurani, Gayathri, Shoma and Al Arish Khan. They all performed well except that Al Arish was absent.

Today’s panel of Judges included Riji sir, Sajin sir and Dhanya ma’am. They were firing questions to the participants quite well. The students question panel also did their part well. Along with them the audience also asked a few questions to the participants. After the interval between the seminar session our beloved H.O.D also came to be a part of us. Towards the end, in the review session Riji sir, Sajin sir and H.O.D shared their views with us. Krishnaraj and Gayathri were also called upon to share their experiences.

Now lets see what the participants have to tell us about their experiences about their performance.

1. R.Krishnaraj

Topic : Delay Tolerant Mobile Network ( Controlled Flooding in Sparse Mobile N/w)

A brief view of the topic : When we travel in a remote are where there is no network we can sent mails or messages by passing the message to all the nodes coming in our range. This technique is applied by Delayed Tolerant Networks in Sparse Mobile Networks.

Krishnaraj says : “I was told to prepare seminar along with the first batch(24-09-08). But due to some reasons I got the chance today only. I got enough time to prepare. First of all I choose a full research paper for my seminar. It helped me to reduce my efforts in finding the contents for my topic.

I was not new to the stage. I had been on stage many times for events like quiz, best manager e.t.c and have experience in anchoring also. But this was totally different. This time I had to virtually teach my class mates and even our all respected teachers. Although I was confident I was afraid of the time limit(15 min) and whether I could make others understand my topic. So I did 2-3 trials for my own and 2 trials in front of my friends. When I tried in front of my friends I had starting problems and took 18 minutes.

After all this preparations the D-day came. Our seminar was held in the afternoon and got some time to prepare in the morning. I was not tensed and was confident but when we tried to connect the laptop to the projector, we failed. This made me tensed and when we got a new laptop current went off. this added to the tension By 1:15 only we could the technical problem which already had cost enough damage in my confidence. So I was a bit nervous before taking the seminar and I was the first in my batch to take the seminar. Before I started I stood on the stage for a minute looking at my friends and teachers for a minute. I understood all my friends was with me. And this gave me confidence. I still don;t know what happened the next 15minutes. With God’s grace I completed it successfully. My last slide was named ‘KURUKSHETRA’ showing the picture of Lord Krishna giving advice to Arjun. I took this to represent the Q&A session. I was felt prepared for all the expected regions of questionings. so I could easily tackle it. Then Riji sir asked what the picture represented. I said Krishna represents my teachers giving advice to me(Arjun) for my seminar.

When seminar was over I felt as if nothing has happened. The happiest moment was when my friends congratulated me for the good performance and when I knew others got a good idea about what I told.

I would like to suggest a few points to my friends who are yet to take the seminar : Prepare well and read the contents 2 -3 times so that you can identify the possible regions of questions and prepare on it. Before starting the seminar be on stage for a minute, look at all your friends and get a feel of the stage. It could take all your nervousness from you. “

2. Deepalekshmi J

Topic : EXIM

A brief view of the topic : Exim is a Mail Transfer Agent used in Linux systems. It is a message transfer agent(MTA) developed at the University of Cambridge for use on Unix systems connected to the Internet. Exim is highly configurable and has many powerful and advanced configuration options including the ability to store lists of users, hosts, domains etc. In simple text files, databases and “callouts” to other programs or scripts on the same computer.

Deepalekshmi says : “Completing my seminar was horrible experience. My topic was Email Server in Linux. Before starting my seminar I was so happy that it was going to end. After conclusion I was fearlessbut little bit tensed about the questions. When I heard the questions fear again came to my mind. After all that I was happy.“

3. KochuRani

Topic : Cognitive Radio (CR)

A brief view of the topic : It is a form of wireless communication in which a transceiver can intelligibly detect which communication channels are in use and which are not, and instantly move into vacant channels while avoiding occupied ones. This optimizes the use of available radio frequency(RF) spectrum. by using this technology smart radios can avoid transmission bottlenecks by switching instantly to nearby frequencies then they sense are clear.

KochuRani says : “Actually for last 2 or 3 days, I was always thinking about my seminar. Because I was sure that I will shiver when I am on the dias. I was not much tensed because of my friends support and encouragement. I presented once before my friends and this gave me more confidence and was able to adjust the time of presentation. Actually I was not well prepared. So I was having lot of fear about the Q&A session.

When I was taking seminar I was having fear. but I concentrated on the topic and didn’t think about the Q&A session, or whether my friends can follow me. I looked at my friends and those walking through the corridor while presenting.

During the Q&A session I was tensed until the first question was asked (by my teaching staff). After that Q&A session was like a fun for me, because they asked one thing and I told some other thing as answer.

My advise to my friends : Prepare for the seminar and slides at least before 3 days. Presented before friends more than once and accept their advices. Ask them to ask questions and prepare for those question. Nothing to be afraid of because we have to face a lot of challenges in our life. This seminar will be nothing when compared to that. “

4. Gayathri Rajesh

Topic : Face Recognition

A brief view of the topic : Face is an important part of who we are and how people identify us. It is arguably a person’s the most unique physical characteristic. While humans had the innate ability to recognize and distinguish different faces for millions of years, computers are just now catching up. A facial recognition system is a computer application for automatically identifying or verifying a person from a digital image or a video frame from a video source.

Gayathri says : “Before I went on the stage I was tensed. After being on it at starting I forgot everything. After sometime I got relaxed. After taking the seminar I am feeling good and confident. It is such a good experience which increases the confidence of students.“

4. Shoma Manoj

Topic : V-Model for Software testing.

A brief view of the topic : The V-Model is software development process which can be presumed to be the extension of the waterfall model. Instead of moving down in a linear way, the process steps are bent upward after the coding phase, to form the typical V shape. The V-model demonstrates the relationship between each phase of the development life cycle and its associated phase of testing.

Shoma says : “I was very much tensed when I was on the stage to present my topic. After giving a look to all my friends I felt comfort and was somewhat free from tension. When I started presenting the topic.. I donno what happened. Words were flowing from me. After my presentation Q& A session started. It made me tensed again. But at the end of 20 minutes (i.e after Q&A session) I felt relieved. “

Hello friends,

Am here to report the seminar events that are taking place for the final year CYBORGS. Yah the seminars have just begun. Today was the opening day. We the CYBORGS have been wandering through all the sites and all the books in search of a seminar topic. We have been burning out our head looking for seminar topics. Its not that we are not getting any topics but most of the topics we have submitted along with the abstract had been rejected. At last many have cleared the screening process and are now preparing for their presentation.

Part 1 ; Date : 24-09-’08

1. Saneeja Thomas

Topic: Intel Atom

A brief viewof the topic : Atom is the latest processor of Intel, launched on June’08. It is based on an entirely new design, namely 45nm CMOS technology. The chip is very small in size, with an area of 26 sq.mm. Evenif it is small, it is powerful enough to enable a big internet experience.

Saneeja says : ” Still i dont understand how i agreed to take the first seminar?!! There wasn’t any model for me to look upon n i never had any previous experiences too.. mmm.. gr8 challenge!! So i made up my mind 2 face it in the way it comes.. But.. u know guys; when i was on the stage..i was totally blank! All i could see was… lot of eyes staring at me….. some were too anxious to know what z gonna happen in d next moment… uff! It was realy a tough situation… i took a deep breath.. gave a smile 2 the audience.. n said ‘Good Morning Everyone..’ So that was the real beginning of a 15 minutes war .. i tried to explain the topic in a very simple way so that everyone can understand.. N .. i think i’ve succeeded in my mission to a great extend.. (understood from the comments & shakehands that i got after the seminar.. thanx 2 all.. ) But .. to be frank, when i was on the stange i never felt like they r understanding what i was trying to convey.. donno y.. may be coz i was still in that dilemma .. hehe.. Anyway.. the war continued for almost 15 mins and ended up in a pretty gud way.. But u kno guys; actually the real battle was ther waiting for me…..with its outstretched hands…. yeahhhh.. the Question- Answer sections !! I was ‘gifted’ with lots of lots of questions from al the sides.. Some were answered; the remaining unanswered.. But i must admit it was realy cool to be in such a situation, N infact; that was the most interesting section in the seminar . Thanx 2 al my friends and the faculty .. who has helped me a lot with those sensible questions…

To my friends who z gonna face the same situation in coming days: Prepare well wid ur topic.. Ur level of confidence will increase automaticaly.. N dont be afraid with the Q & A section.. Itz really fun.. trust me

To the people other than final year Cyborgs : Today Riji Sir asked me a question.. It was like dis..’ Saneeja.. if u r asked to market the Atom processor using a single word..which word u’l use? ‘ i hope u guys can imagine my situation then.. anyway.. after thinking for a while.. my mind & tongue said simultaneously.. ‘Excellent !! ‘ .. n dat was the end of my seminar….

But still i m confused… what i actualy meant with that word ‘excellent’…?! Whether the Atom processor is excellent……..or…….or…. the question is excellent………

Yet to be found !!

2. Anumod Kumar

Topic : Aspect Oriented Programming

A brief viewof the topic : AOP is a programming technology that modularises code into processes. It is similar with Object Oriented Programing; especially in code reusability and maintainability. Cross cutting is an important concept in Aspect Oriented Programming.

Anumod says : “Let me start with yesterday(the day before the presentation)… Though we were guided to prepare a maximum of 18 slides, after I prepared all the slides mine just added upto 28. So I was tensed about it. And I managed to reduce the number to 20. You won’t believe if I say that at about 10pm I was in a mood to watch a movie and so I loaded the movie ‘Rock On’ in my laptop. My tension was reduced a little when I called my mom at night. After the night’s sleep I got up at 3am in the morning due to my tension. While still being on the bed I thought of how to present my seminar and slowly drifted to sleep unknowingly. And then got up again at 8 in the morning. By 8:45am I reached college but still I was not in a mood to present my topic. When I saw the tension of my batch mates my tension slowly started showing it head up. Then i just went out to get all the things for the day’s seminar like mic, sound system etc. The seminar started. First Saneeja presented her seminar. At that time I was out of tension. But when her Q&A session began again from somewhere tension came back rushing towards me. Oooh forgot to tell you people that I was actually been put in the 8th batch but I asked sir and changed it to 1st batch. This thought came to me at that point of time. I cursed the very moment I requested for such a change of batch. By now Saneeja was through her presentation and Q&A session. Now the next one to be on stage was myself. Tension was doing it best upon me from time Riji sir called upon my name untill I reached the stage. But once I was on the platform there wasn’t any tension. Then words were just flowing out of my mouth. Truly speaking I don’t know what exactly I presented. If someone ask me to present it again, I won’t be able to present it as I did it today. When the final bell rang, there was still 3 more slides to present. Still I managed to be calm. There ended my presentation part. Then came the big game of Seminar – the Q&A session. Some of my classmates asked me questions and I was able to answer it properly and then there was some tricky questions from the faculty side especially from Reji sir. His questions were absolutely hitting the target. His questions really took me to the pinpoint. Still I managed to answer it satisfactorily[ Maybe for me but not for the faculty]. And my part was over. Once I came down from the stage I felt very Sanguine.“

3. Reshmi Narayanan

Topic : Web Service Choreography(WSC)

A brief viewof the topic : Choreography defines the sequence and conditions in which the messages are exchanged in different Web services using Web Service Technology. There are 3 types of choreography. They are : Abstract choreography, Portable choreography and finally concrete choreography.

Reshmi says : “When I came to know that I was chosen to be in the first batch I was very much tensed. Though I knew that there was Seminar I never expected to be in the first batch. My elder sister helped me a lot for preparing for my seminar. I had prepared for my topic once I was at home. Still then I was tensed. But when I presented it before my friends at hostel, they helped me to improve myself and this increased my confidence level. On the morning on my seminar day I wasn’t much tensed. I was not having stage fear since I had past experiences, but I was tensed about the Q&A session. When it came to my Q&A session it wasn’t as bad as I expected. When the seminar was over I felt very much relieved. I felt as if some big job was out of my head. I am glad that I could present a good seminar. ”

4. Maneesha P M

Topic : Multi-Core processor

My name was announced there, Ho still I can’t believe that it happened. I was invited. An expected moment… I walked onto the stage and i started talking my topic “Multi-core processor“. the first few minutes were very tough for me as I was shivering. All the 70 pair of eyes were focusing at me. Naturally I was able to adapt with the surroundings. Started feeling cool and somehow completed my presentation. It was then that the questioning session began. I was very my relieved once the presentation was over. I am very much feeling confident after my presentation. ”
