Finally the department of Biotechnology & Biochemical Engineering of Sree Buddha College of Engineering got the much awaited break …S3 from the grueling aura of classrooms and S7 &S5 from the choking examinations…On, 2nd September 2008, we had the national seminar on “Molecular Medicine”. The venue of the event was the seminar hall in the main block.
Molecular Medicine is a subject which has an irreplaceable place in today’s world. Moreover,, our college has started M.tech course in molecular medicine. So..the above two reasons make this seminar much more important and worth attending.
The one day programme started off with a welcome speech by the head of department of BT & BCE , Prof.V.K.Sasikumar. During the course of his speech he highlighted the significance of the subject in today’s world.
This was followed by the introduction of the guests by Prof .V.Prasad, Secretary, Sree Buddha college of engineering.
Prof. K. Sasikumar, Chairman of Sree Buddha college of Engineering gave the chairman’s address in which he urged the students to produce knowledge.{were we inspired????hmmm……..time will prove.i guess})
Then was the time…..the time for us to sharpen our minds…we got to hear DR .GAURANGA MUKHOPADHYAY , professor, special centre for molecular medicine ,JNU, New Delhi, speak….I thought that he was going to give a lecture on a topic much beyond my level of understanding……..But thankfully ..he talked about the courses and admission procedures in JNU……hardly anyone gets in there…..so tough……..
The keynote address was given by DR.RAJESH K TYAGI, associate professor ,special centre for molecular medicine,JNU,New Delhi.
He is a very jovial person and wanted to convey his ideas to the students…..
Though the topic was a bit tough….he made it sound so interesting……..
The only time that my attention went in other direction was when the refreshments came……..a nice break for an hungry stomach……After a long class……we had the question- answer session….where some of the faculty asked the doubts ….and my friend too asked a question………then we got a lunch break for about 45 min….
The afternoon session got all the students to yawn a bit…..because of the heavy lunch….
Though the topic was worth listening…attention was divided……
MR.K. C SIVAKUMAR, informations officer ,Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology, Thiruvananthapuram gave the first presentation on “molecular modeling and drug design”..
Then the second presentation was from DR.THOMAS M VARGHESE, Dean,R&D, SBCE.he was convinced that we were all playing with boredom…so he gave his presentation in a very short time……..occasionally making lighter remarks to spread smiles…..
Atleast that helped a lot……
Unfortunately/……..the presentation of Mr. MANOJ NARAYANAN, lecturer ,BT&BCE, SBCE., had to be postponed due to lack of time…
FAZIL Sir from BT&BCE gave the vote of thanks……
Thus…ended the national seminar……an eventful day……with lots of memories to take forward….
