American superstar Michael Jackson was born in Gary, Indiana in 1958 and has been entertaining audiences nearly his entire life. His father, Joseph Jackson, had been a guitarist but was forced to give up his musical ambitions following his marriage to Katherine (Scruse). Together they prodded their growing family’s musical interests at home. By the early 60s the older boys Jackie, Tito and Jermaine had begun performing around the city; by 1964 Michael and Marlon had joined in.

A musical prodigy, Michael’s singing and dancing talents were amazingly mature and he soon became the dominant voice and focus of “The Jackson 5.” An opening act for such soul groups as the O-Jays and  James Brown, it was Gladys Knight (notDiana Ross) who officially brought the group to Berry Gordy’s attention, and by 1969 the boys were producing back-to-back chartbusting hits as Motown artists. As a product of the 70s, the boys had emerged as one of the most accomplished black pop/soul vocal groups in music history, successfully evolving from a Temptations-like group act to a disco phenomenon.

Solo success for Michael was inevitable, and by the 80s he had become infinitely more popular than his brotherly group. Record sales consistently orbited, culminating in the biggest-selling album of all time, “Thriller.” A TV natural, he ventured rather uneasily into films, such as playing the Scarecrow in The Wiz (1978), but had better luck with elaborate music videos.

In the 90s the down side as an 80s pop phenomenon began to show. Michael grew terribly child-like and introverted by his celebrity. A rather timorous, androgynous figure to begin with, his physical appearance began to change drastically and his behavior grew alarmingly bizarre, making him a consistent target for scandal-making, despite his numerous charitable acts. Two brief marriages — one to Elvis Presley‘s daughter Lisa Mary Presley– were forged and two children produced by his second wife during that time, but the purposes were obviously image oriented. Designed by the Fiat Style Center, the new car’s originality is summed up by elegant, distinctive styling, with aggravatingly smooth, simple, uncluttered lines that give the car a dynamic, harmonious look.

In line with the dictates of the new standards, the grille marks the dividing line between the bonnet and the front bumpers, and the latter taper off gradually until they meet the wheel arches. A ridge starts from the fog lights, which link up to the sides, and incorporates them, linking up again at the center with the lower air intake.

And finally, a rib between the headlight and the fog light makes the bumper look lighter and creates the same graphical motif. The sleek, faired headlights which extend towards the sides of the car suggest dynamism and a strong Italian imprint.

Proposed with a single body type, the car conveys an impression of solidity, robustness and roominess, which is confirmed by the generous dimensions.On the side the styling is cut through by a ‘slash’ which starts from the middle of the wheel arch and dissolves into the rear, emphasizing the car’s dynamic look.

Interiors

The lines that run inside the passenger compartment are harmonious and well balanced with the external lines, which combine with the generous glazing to create a friendly, light-filled environment that guarantees excellent interior roominess, and more comfort than you might expect from a conventional 3-box saloon in terms of ergonomics and space for the driver and passengers.

Driving is made particularly enjoyable by the position of the pedals, the steering wheel alignment, the position of the armrest and footrest, the excellent manoeuvring of the gearshift and the perfect visibility of the instrumentation and the main controls.

FIAT & Microsoft’s ‘BLUE&ME’ SYSTEM

The top model of Linea will also be equipped with the innovative ‘Blue&Me’ system, based on the Windows Mobile technology, developed by Fiat Group Automobiles and Microsoft, which changes the communication, information and entertainment standards in the car, improving comfort and the quality of life on board.

The device is easy to use and Bluetooth technology allows you to make and receive telephone calls and listen to music simply and safely as you drive, communicating with the outside world from the car via your personal devices such as cell phones and PDAs.

After pairing your Bluetooth mobile phone with the system, which you only need to do once, and by downloading your phone’s phonebook, you can make and receive phone calls simply by speaking: all the commands can be given without taking your hands off the wheel or your eyes off the road.

SAFETY

In addition to its excellent braking system, the Fiat Linea is also equipped with one of the most advanced ABS anti-lock braking systems on the market, complete with EBD electronic brake force distribution.

The latter distributes the braking force over the four wheels to prevent them from locking, guaranteeing complete control of the car in all conditions. Russia’s Kseniya Sukhinova won the Miss World 2008 crown on Saturday in a glittering African-themed pageant where she outshone 108 other international beauties and pledged to “help people.”

“And Miss World 2008 is Russia,” announced Julia Morley, head of the Miss World committee that organises the event.

India’s Parvathy Omanakuttan was adjudged the first runner-up at the Miss World pageant here Saturday evening.

Parvathy does a graceful 'namastey' to the crowd that cheers. This is showcasing India and its culture to the world in the best manner possible.

Parvathy Omanakuttan wooed the crowd by greeting them in the Afrikaans language, spoken by many in South Africa. She also referred to heroes such as Mahatma Ghandi and South Africa’s first black president Nelson Mandela, who was quoted by Trinidad and Tobago’s Walcott as well.

The second runner up was Gabrielle Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago and the first runner up Parvathay Omanakuttan of India.

The 21-year-old blue-eyed blonde beauty, who declared shortly before her win was announced that being nervous made her “feel stronger,” takes over from Zhang Zi Lin of China to become the 58th Miss World.

“I think I can help people and I want to help people and today if I walk away with this crown I will do that,” Sukhinova told judges through a translator after being asked why she should be crowned the winner.

The Old gives way to the New

Hailing from Nizhnevartovsk in the north west of Siberia, Sukhinova was dressed in a purple gown, with a decorative neckline and flowing skirt.

She is a student pursuing an engineering degree from the Tyumen Oil and Gas University.

Sukhinova becomes the second Miss Russia to win the global event after Julia Kourochkina took the crown in 1992.

More than 100 of the world’s most beautiful women compete on Saturday for the Miss World crown, after a month traveling in South Africa, with some decidedly unglamorous moments on safari.

During the two-hour show, set to begin at 2030 IST, the beauties will parade on stage in gowns created by South African and Jamaican designers.

This year’s event has a special focus on song, dance and music, with Miss England and others performing on stage, organisers said.

The women, aged 17 to 25, arrived in South Africa one month ago and have criss-crossed the country for an endless series of galas, rehearsals and press conferences – and of course a safari.

Trading their sequins for T-shirts and sneakers, they gamely tromped into the bush to see lions and giraffes, play djembe drums, sleep in huts and cook traditional Zulu meals.

Contestants from the eight countries in the FIFA Confederations Cup, which takes place in South Africa in June as a warm-up for the 2010 World Cup, also joined in the draw for their teams.

South Africa hopes the pageant, broadcast in 180 countries to an estimated one billion viewers, will help overcome Johannesburg’s reputation for crime and promote the city as a tourist spot.

Since the pageant began in 1951, it’s been held in South Africa eight times.

Julia Morley, head of the Miss World committee that organises the event, says the pageant serves a charitable purpose.

So Whats’ New in the New Suzuki GS150R..??

The Suzuki GS150R actually is a proportionate and handsomely styled motorcycle. But don’t get me wrong when I say that this design should probably have come 3-4 years back.

In 2008, the Yamaha FZ16 has shown what impact “Distinctive Styling” can make on bikers/consumers.. both the Yamaha FZ16 and the Suzuki GS150R makes 15 PS max. power. But then the Yamaha (FZ16) definitely makes a biker sit up and ogle at it more than once.

The other hand the Suzuki GS150R has Styling elements which can be traced back to current India 150 cc bikes. For example, the “Rubber Gaiters” on the front forks shout Pulsar 150/180 (the current Pulsar 150/180 has dumped the rubber gaiters though). Even the headlamp which actually mimics the look of the headlamps from Suzuki’s International lineup of Super Sport Bikes and Super bikes, actually end up looking very much like the ones from the Bajaj Pulsars. The Front fairing does features pseudo air scoops though.

The side and tail panels also aren’t very distinctive in design and kind of reminds me of the Honda Unicorn. The tank, foot pegs, exhausts, rear and front fenders, black painted alloys and engine covers all somehow give away a feeling of a beast.. at least by looking at the pics/photos of the Suzuki GS150R. Maybe the bike would look distinctive in the flesh.

The turn indicators on the rear are integrated with the tail light unit (much like the ones on the CBZ Xtreme).
