ALUMNI MEETING A FLASHBACK

September 10, 9.30 AM was the most awaited moment for this onam. Ya it’s the 2^nd alumni meeting of SBC and 1^st of mine. Some of them reached a day before and they stayed in the hostel. Once again the SBC men’s hostel became the paradise of the old kings. There is no sur (Surendran sir- some of you know him) but they managed to stay there one whole night. Sankaran chettans teashop is again active but we could not find rajeesh cettan there, then we came to know that he appointed in the college as a library staff. All of them where in the thrill of a celebration more over an escape from their daily works and back into the college life. Everything remained the same except some physical changes like auditorium, library building, Mechanical block etc. Then one commendable thing is the college blog this team is doing a good work.

As usual college days I started very late from my home and once I reached the college first I gave my attendance at sankaran chettans tea shop. Then I went to college I was hoping a crowd there but some of them are scattered there in front of the college. All of them were excited to see each other after a long gap. Registration counter was free and I registered there as the 3^rd one to report from the great ’03-’07 batch. All mine hope were uprooted no one has turned around as expected. Any I have decided to see my college after one year. I have visited almost all parts of the college. Our class 202, as of my knowledge our class is the only one batch which completed the full course in a single class room that’s 202. 202 was locked after onam celebrations, I could see the benches and desks were scattered after the pookkalam competitions. I still remember the days we celebrated onam we used to sign an roam around the college as a group, Ayyappan will be our leader as he is familiar to the whole college that’s his character. We have group of rockers (locally called as alambanmar), a group of 22 boys from the great 202. Whatever be the events we will be there. Memories were flooding in my mind I’m going out of topic I will depict this story later, let me go back to alumni meeting.

At around 11.30AM the supposed meeting started. Principal, Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer were present. More than that Riji isr, Pradeep sir, Manoj Narayan sir, Misha miss were present from the staff side. Let me extend the thanks to all of them present there on behalf of the alumni. Function started with the welcome speech from our principal Dr. K. V. Purushothaman followed by the Presidential Address by our chairman Prof. K. Sasikumar. After that the students representatives from each batch gave the felicitation. The chair in the auditorium was occupied as if an award movie is played in the auditorium. Principal didn’t forget to express his disappointment during his speech. Then Anil M Nair delivered the vote of thanks. He mentioned that most of them didn’t get the message about the function and those who received it got it very late. It was really late to plan for a leave. Then it was time for election as per schedule, but no need for an election all the old office bearers were retained for the students part and made two changes from staff part as Usha miss went for higher studies and riji sir is planning for the same. They were replaced with Pradeep sir and Misha miss.

Then we had our lunch our same old Friday biriyani but having it from our canteen is a marvelous feeling, we felt as if the college days are back.There are after we had a good photo session we have walked around all the nuke and corner of SBC.. Rahul and atul were keep on clicking their cameras. I think they have uploaded it in orkut. After that the executive committee meeting was held.

The main agenda of the meeting was the scholarship to be given to the academically bright students, what all things we can do with the alumni fund. In the meeting we have decided to keep a mail address aluminisbc@gmail.com which can be he unique point of contact for alumni members. Each one from each batch has agreed that they will get all the active e-mail id’s of their batch mates. So we are planning to maintain a mailing list for each batch. Once the mailing list is active we will start sending monthly newsletters and event notifications. Emmanuel from ’02-’06 suggested that we can put 30% of the fund in mutual funds and the rest 70% can be put in fixed deposit. So that with the interest we can conduct so many activities including the scholar ship and the annual alumni meet etc. Next year onwards we are planning to have the alumni meet in a specific day in every year. As everyone suggested we have decided to conduct it during the Easter holidays(The Saturday before Easter). So my batch mates please send your active personal mail-id to me @ arun3210@gmail.com.

We ended up the day with a tea and snack. Thanks to all who have put their effort to host this alumni meeting. Also a word to those who didn’t come even after knowing about this event from your friends, “It’s Our College meeting each other in the college after a long is really a wonderful effect”
